In the period 2008-2009, water boards formed a study group, named ‘The Energy Factory’. This desk study concluded that supercritical gasification can provide for a substantial reduction of the processing cost of sewage sludge. There is potentially enough energy in sewage sludge to operate a sewage treatment plant (WWTP) with simultaneous energy-production.
The Waterboards are collaborating in Scarlet-plus and are providing know-how about sludge dewatering, sludge composition and the integration of supercritical gasification on a WWTP
